Sacred’s cooking with gas
SACRED made it a happy hour for the William Haggas stable with a last-to-first victory in the Group 2 BetVictor Hungerford Stakes at Newbury.
The Cheveley Park Stud-owned filly’s win, on her first start since running seventh in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket back in May, completed a notable hat-trick for the Somerville Lodge team after the Group-race successes of Cloudy Dawn and Dubai Honour at Deauville yesterday.
The Tom Marquandpartnered daughter of Exceed And Excel, winner of the sevenfurlong Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket in April, found the Rowley Mile beyond her 18 days later – but made full use of coming back to the former trip to beat Laneqash by a length.
“When Ryan Moore won the Nell Gwyn on her, he said it was like riding a motorbike,” said Haggas’ wife and assistant Maureen, who nominated the Group 1 Prix de la Foret in Paris on October 3 as
Sacred’s autumn target.
“We’ve timed her with the latest equipment and some of her figures are unbelievable.”
