What’s on in October

■■Autumn’s here, the nights are closing in making it the best time to settle down with a classic old film. The Bristol Film Festival is screening movies in some of the city’s most iconic locations. Settle in at Clifton Observator­y for La La Land or The Descent in Redcliffe Caves. Other venues include Brunel’s SS Great Britain and Bristol Museum. There will also be immersive events such as wine tastings and live performers.

■■The 18th-century grounds of Petworth House have their own ancient trees walk, and there’s a map you can download. At the West Sussex park you’ll see oaks (including one that’s 940■■years old), beeches and chestnuts in their full autumn blaze. ■■Spin a yarn at the Scottish Internatio­nal Storytelli­ng Festival from October 15-31. This year’s theme is Imagine and there’ll be online events as well as 190 live performanc­es across Scotland.
