Levelling-up team slated as 2 in 3 work in London
TWO in three of Michael Gove’s team working on his levelling-up plans are still based in London.
New figures from the Levelling-up Secretary, inset, show 1,929 of 3,011 officials are based in the capital. Labour’s Lisa
Nandy said: “We’ve had quite enough
of ministers and civil servants sitting in Whitehall picking winners and losers in our nations and regions. For the department supposed to set this right to adopt the same arrogant approach is, frankly, insulting.” Wolverhampton has 129 of the civil servants, Birmingham has 118, Bristol 88, Leeds 75 and
Manchester 62. Housing Minister Eddie Hughes said: “We now have 32% of our workforce outside of London.”
