STAND-IN REID HAPPY WITH SEAGULLS’ PECKING ORDER

- BY CHRIS HATHERALL

BRIGHTON assistant boss Billy Reid insists he has no dreams of becoming a manager again – no matter how well it goes for him as a stand-in against Leicester at the King Power today.

Reid will be stepping out of the shadows and into the spotlight in the East Midlands, because Seagulls manager

Graham Potter is stuck at home with Covid. But the experienced Scottish coach – who made his name as manager of Hamilton Academical between 2005 and 2013 – won’t be using today as any sort of stepping zone.

The former defender said: “I’m really content in the role I have with Graham, working with him for nine years and being in the

Premier League. So, it’s not a question of wanting to be a manager. I fit this role fairly well, and I’m looking forward to working with Graham in the future too.

“I’ve known all along that he is a top manager. The way he sets his team out, the way he manages players. It’s fantastic.”

Potter, who will be directing proceedings from his lounge in Sussex and talking regularly to Reid during the match, has been mentioned as a future England boss, and clubs like Everton and Tottenham are keeping an eye on his progress.

Reid added: “It’s not for me to say how far Graham can go. I’m biased. But I hope people see what we’re trying to do here.”
