KIERAN: FOURTH IS GOOD

- TOM HOPKINSON

KIERAN TIERNEY is on a mission to get Arsenal back into the Champions League for the first time in five years.

The Gunners’ last taste of Europe’s premier club competition was a 10-2 aggregate last-16 mauling by Bayern Munich in 2017.

Tierney said: “As an Arsenal player, you know the standards of the club and you know what the expectations are.

“But you also know where we’ve been in the last years as well.

Fourth place in the Premier League is a good position, good progress – and it’s something we can build on.

“It’s something you take game by game. Arsenal belong in the Champions League and, obviously, in the last few years we haven’t done that, so to do that would great progress for the club.”

Tierney (above) added: “We know it’s going to be tough but these are the months to do it. This is the part of the season where you want to set your eyes on a target and know what you need to do to get there. You need to be winning games.

“Burnley always make it a tough, tough game. They are always very compact and good at what they do, going forward, with crosses into the box from wide. We know we’re going to be up against it.”

After today’s clash, Arsenal will have 17 days without a game, and

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said: “We have the break and we will use it in the best possible way so we get back with the amount of players that we need to compete at this level.”
