Morison: We

- By RICHARD LATHAM at Ashton Gate

STEVE MORISON blasted his Cardiff players for their second-half capitulation after a Chris Martin double settled this Severnside derby.

The Welsh side’s struggles continued after labouring to another defeat to extend their winless run to six games. And the manner of this loss to their rivals left Morison fuming. He said: “The second half was the worst 45 minutes I have had watching from the touchline.

“We were outfought and out-battled, which frustrated and disappointed me.

“They wanted it more than us in the second half. It was frustrating and it hurt.

“We hit the self-destruct button a minute after we scored.

“I asked them to be calm and relaxed and they went completely the other way. But we were still in it at half-time and let ourselves down from then on. They let themselves down in the second half.

“The players need to be better individually and take more responsibility for moments in the game.”

Antoine Semenyo’s speed and power were behind many of Bristol City’s best moves and he was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after hitting the woodwork.

But the hosts had to come

from behind. James Collins headed the Bluebirds into a 31st- minute lead from a cross by Tommy Doyle, making his debut on loan from Manchester City.

Barely a minute later, Andreas Weimann broke through the centre of Cardiff’s defence and a poor clearance from Curtis Nelson saw the ball run to Martin, who levelled with a curling shot. The big striker was on target again on 63 minutes with a crisp low drive from the edge of the box after moving onto a pass from Semenyo.

Semenyo was terrorising the visitors and he turned provider again when setting up Weimann to lash in the Robins’ third from a narrow angle on 77 minutes with Cardiff’s defence again going AWOL.

Max Watters headed a 90th-minute consolation for Cardiff from a cross by fellow substitute Ryan Wintle, but it was too little, too late. Robins boss Nigel Pearson was delighted to see Martin’s work-rate rewarded.

He has struggled to find the net at Ashton Gate this season but Pearson said: “Chris comes in for some criticism at times, but he is a team player, who is good at both ends of the pitch.

“He took his goals really well and he deserved them for the amount of work he puts into games.

“All our front players caused Cardiff problems. There was real pace to our attacks and we looked really dangerous.

“Our fans have gone home happy and I think they can see that every player is working for the side. We are making progress.”
