Bhoys have bumpy ride

Scottish Cup Round-Up

-

CELTIC survived a late scare against League 1 parttimers ALLOA ATHLETIC before earning a Scottish Cup last-16 place.

Georgios Giakoumakis and Liel Abada put the Bhoys in control.

But Connor Sammon’s late header gave the hosts hope and Celtic were made to sweat in their 2-1 win.

Ange Postecoglou’s men blew a host of chances but Barry Ferguson’s third-tier side were unable to force extra-time.

However, Postecoglou (above) was left fretting after trio Callum McGregor, Yosuke Ideguchi and Abada all suffered injuries.

Fourth-tier minnows KELTY HEARTS pulled off a shock by stunning holders ST JOHNSTONE 1-0.

Kallum Higginbotham broke clear to score in extra-time for the League 2 leaders.

Kelty Hearts manager Kevin Thomson said: “We wanted to have a go and, to a man, the boys were unbelievable.”

Liam Donnelly’s extratime winner ensured MOTHERWELL beat Championship side GREENOCK MORTON 2-1.

HEARTS breezed past sixth-tier AUCHINLECK TALBOT 5-0 while ABERDEEN were 3-0 winners over EDINBURGH CITY.

REMEMBER when the Premier League announced receiving “legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United Football Club”?

On Friday, Toon boss Eddie Howe (below) confirmed his squad will spend the next few days in warm-weather training… in Saudi Arabia.

Presumably, La Manga was booked up and Jeddah was the only alternative.
