Airline giant Delta aims to slash its single-use plastic consumption by around 2,220 tonnes a year – the equivalent weight of 15 Airbus A350 long haul passenger jets.

The Atlanta carrier is updating onboard products to include artisan-made amenity kits, recycled bedding, eco-friendly tableware and premium canned wine. Besides cutting plastic waste, the move will also increase Delta’s support of businesses run by women and minorities.

Innovations include bamboo cutlery and biodegradable plates in economy and bedding sets made with recycled plastic bottles in the executive Delta One cabin.

A spokeswoman said: “These latest additions deliver something unique to our customers, reduce our environmental impact and create jobs for communities we serve.” delta.com
