BOSS MUST BANISH GOODISON BLUES

- Interview: David Maddock

NOW Everton seem to be finally sorting their managerial situation, it is time for the club to take a step back and address the wider issues.

It strikes me that their whole identity is wrong at the moment, the focus of the club directed too much towards their neighbours.

Frank Lampard has been offered the job and, if he takes it, he must immediately start to turn the ethos of the club around, away from this notion of the ‘People’s Club’ that says, ‘We may be miles behind Liverpool, but it’s OK because we have the hearts and minds of the local people’.

It is almost taking pride in being parochial and some would say second-rate. Everton are a historic club have always been one of the biggest in the country. They have to start thinking like that.

They want to see the new boss installed by tomorrow and he must get rid of the negativity and start being the School of Science again.

If you are forever justifying being in someone else’s shadow, you’ll never step out into the light.

The time has come now for

Everton to show the belief and ambition they want to do that.

It will take courage and conviction to stand up and say, ‘We are going to rip up what we’ve been doing and find a new way, a better way – and we will be the best in every way’.
