FRENCH LEAVE FOR PHIL
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ralf Rangnick is set to give Phil Jones the green light to join Bordeaux on loan for the rest of the season.
The French club have offered to pay a big chunk of Jones’ £100,000a-week wages as they look to replace struggling former Arsenal centreback Laurent Koscielny.
And although Rangnick gave the former England international his first start for almost two years earlier this month, it seems like he is open to allowing Jones (below) to leave Old Trafford.
Jones, 29, impressed after being thrown in against Wolves at home following a spate of injuries and illness – although the Reds were beaten 1-0.
It was his first appearance since scoring a goal in a comfortable FA Cup win at Tranmere in January 2020.
Jones is keen to kickstart his career and has told United that he feels he can only do so away from the club.
He recently spoke about the mental toll of falling out of favour at Old Trafford under previous boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Jones was heralded as the new Duncan Edwards by Sir Alex
Ferguson when he joined United from Blackburn Rovers in a £16.5million deal in the summer of 2011.
He played his part in Ferguson’s team lifting the Premier League title in 2013 and has also won FA Cup and Europa League medals during his time in Manchester.
