Bowyer loving window view

LEE BOWYER is in a happier place but has warned Birmingham City fans it could take a while before they join him there.

The Blues chief is more satisfied with his squad now than he was when the January transfer window opened.

A string of loan players were replaced by more temporary imports as technical director Craig Gardner tried to slash the wage bill – while keeping the same levels of quality on the pitch.

Bowyer (right) said: “This is going to take a few windows to sort out – this isn’t a short-term project. It’s not going to be a problem that goes away immediately.

“We have our own players out on loan. They’ll be back here in the summer.

“The reason they’re not here now is because they’re not the right fit for this club. The players we have been lucky enough to bring in on loan are going back to their own clubs. So, this summer there will be another big turnaround.

“But I’m a lot happier because of the last few days. In Juninho Bacuna and Lyle Taylor we have brought in two good players – they’ve strengthened the squad.

“We needed a striker. For the last few games we’ve had no one on the bench who can come on and play up front.

“A few weeks ago, we lost two midfielders through suspension. We only had Ivan Sunjic left.

“Again, Bacuna coming in has helped us. I can say the same about the other lads. Onel Hernandes has been a good signing. Teden Mengi has been a good signing.

“This window we have done really well.”
