Curry’s adding spice
GARY FITZGERALD
TOM CURRY says England must not jeopardise their morale-lifting autumn success with another Six Nations flop.
The Sale Sharks star says that starts with being fully prepared for anything Scotland throw at them.
Curry was vice-captain for the November wins over Australia and South Africa and has been linked with filling the leadership role with injured Owen Farrell out. Courtney
Lawes and Maro Itoje are favourites to get the captaincy nod for Murrayfield on Saturday, but Curry, 23, was in a motivational mood.
He said: “We simply have to back up what we did in the autumn. Those wins will mean nothing if we don’t go out there, build on it and do it again.
“Day in, day out we have to make sure we keep fighting. We must keep getting better and it starts with a good first Six Nations week when you can really build some momentum.”
England were a sorry fifth in the championship last season and Curry added: “We’re aware of past performances, but we have to take care of the present.
“The Calcutta Cup is a historic event and, when you are growing up, it is a game you would love to be part of, especially at Murrayfield. It’s a very difficult place to visit.
“We know that from our past experiences and know what it means to Scotland to play England.
“But we also know how to win up there and what we need to do. So we will go there full of confidence and belief in ourselves and our game plan.
“We have a few good days’ training ahead, which we will get stuck into, then look at the Scottish side. Our preparation must be right.”
