Dropping-off fees hit fliers at half-term
AIRPORTS have been accused of clobbering halfterm holidaymakers with drop-off parking charges.
Heathrow introduced a £5 fee for dropping off passengers in November.
Gatwick and nine other airports have similar fees. Stansted’s £7 drop-off zone is the most expensive.
Drivers can be fined up to £100 if they forget to pay.
The RAC’s Simon Williams said: “Some charges are eye-watering considering how little time people spend dropping off friends and family.”
The Airport Operators Association said the fees “manage congestion” and limit “environmental and air quality impacts”.
It added drivers can save cash by using short-stay car parks or drop-off areas further from terminals.
