Follow Mirza’s lead, PM
I applaud Munira Mirza for leaving Boris Johnson following his disgusting remarks to leader of the opposition Keir Starmer regarding Jimmy Savile.
In an open resignation letter, she wrote: “I believe it was wrong for you to imply this week that Keir Starmer was personally responsible for allowing Jimmy Savile to escape justice. There was no fair or reasonable basis for that assertion.
“This was not the usual cut and thrust of politics; it was an inappropriate and partisan reference to a horrendous case of child sex abuse.
“You tried to clarify your position today but, despite my urging, you did not apologise for the misleading impression you gave.”
Mirza has been by Boris’ side for 14 years and was a close confidante – someone he trusted, admired and respected. She was acclaimed by many at No10 for her values and integrity.
Now she has walked, surely Boris should do the decent thing and
follow her lead?
