Now is the time to start planning your seeds for spring and summer veg

Next month, keen vegetable growers will be very busy sowing seeds. As we approach the start of the growing season, it’s time to get ready by deciding what to plant and how you go about it. Then you can confidently purchase a few packets when you are next out shopping.

It may be that you have never grown veg from seed before and are lacking in confidence. Don’t be! Remember it’s the same process as growing any other plant from seed. Some will be tender so need to be started off indoors and then planted out after frosty weather has finished in May or thereabouts.

Others are hardy and can go straight into the ground in March. Some are climbers such as beans and will need supports to grow up, while many are suitable to grow in pots, containers, window boxes and even hanging baskets if you don’t have a plot.
