NATHAN JONES wants another crack at a big gun after Luton comfortably avoided the same fate as Newcastle.

Cambridge humbled the Premier League’s new billionaires in the third round but they had no answer to goals from Reece Burke, Carlos Mendes Gomes and Admiral Muskwe.

The Hatters were beaten in both cups by Manchester United and Chelsea last season and boss Jones wants a similar test. He said: “We’d like a nice biggie and give the fans something to remember.

“The wind was swirling and an upset was on the cards but we were very professional. We saw West Ham go to a National League side earlier in the day and struggle.”

United began energetically with Wes Hoolahan, 40 in May, firing over before Adam May shot wide.

Luton took the lead in the 16th minute from Elliot Thorpe’s free-kick after Harrison Dunk had felled Muskwe, with Burke’s header going beyond goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov.

Poor defending allowed Mendes Gomes to double the lead seven minutes later.

Cameron Jerome seized on George Williams’ misplaced header and he set up the former Morecambe man to lash past Mitov for a fine first goal for the Hatters.

Cambridge almost cashed in at the other end on the hour mark as James Brophy teed up Sam Smith but the striker’s shot was wide.

Muskwe wrapped up victory in the 88th minute with a deflected shot from the edge of the box.
