Cam fires past Hull

- By JOHN WARDLE at the MKM Stadium

HULL’S defence finally cracked after more than six hours when they came up against the power of Preston’s Cameron Archer.

The 20-year-old, on loan from Aston Villa, arrowed in the goal that moved Preston within four points of the play-off places.

Boss Ryan Lowe said: “Cameron’s a fantastic talent.

“We brought him here to score goals, but he has other attributes. His quality levels are high and he has a burst of pace.

“He’s got quality in abundance, but now he has to learn about our system.

“He’s going to have a big future, but that’s true of a lot of the lads here.”

Hull were one minute into their seventh hour without conceding a goal when Archer ran onto a pass from Ben Whiteman to finish in the 51st minute. Preston had certainly done their best to end

Hull’s impressive defensive record long before that six-hour landmark, hitting the frame of the goal twice in an entertaining first half.

Preston keeper Daniel Iversen was equally busy in the opening half.

But, once Archer had made the breakthrough, the chances dried up for both teams.

Hull manager Shota Arveladze said: “It’s my first defeat and now we have to move on. We looked better when we changed to have three men in midfield, but we should have done more when we had the ball.”
