More meddling with road code
MOTORISTS struggling with last month’s Highway Code rule changes will face more later this year when updates are brought in for driverless cars.
Drivers will be allowed to go hands free when their vehicle is nudging forward in a traffic jam using automated lane keeping systems.
But they must be alert so they can take over the wheel if something goes wrong.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps wants the UK to be the first to allow driverless cars.
But critics said constantly messing with the code leaves drivers mystified. Jack Cousens of the AA said: “As soon as they update it something else comes along.”
Shadow Roads Minister Gill Furniss said: “This shambolic government haven’t even bothered to publicise the last set of major changes.”
There was confusion over last month’s reforms tweaking rights of way for cyclists and pedestrians.
