‘Milly WILL be playing next year’

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has told James Milner he wants him to stay at Anfield beyond his 37th birthday.

The former England midfielder is out of contract in June.

Klopp has already spoken to him about extending his deal and has told Liverpool’s top brass to make it happen.

He remains a big influence in the squad – both on and off the pitch.

Klopp believes that Milner has more mileage left in his legs.

And that he won’t hang up his boots even if an agreement isn’t reached for him to stay at Anfield.

Klopp said: “There are talks, but usually we don’t comment about that.

“There is no reason for it, but I am in talks, the club is in talks with Milly, so we will see.

“There is no chance Milly will retire next year, he is desperate to play on.

“If you can play football, it is better than other things.

“Milly obviously loves what he is doing and he will play football next year, definitely.”
