BEES HELLO TO ERIKSEN

- TOM HOPKINSON

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN was handed a warm welcome from Brentford’s fans as the club presented their new man eight months to the day since his horrific collapse in Copenhagen.

The 29-year-old Dane, who died for five minutes during Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash with Finland after suffering a cardiac arrest, wasn’t included in Thomas Frank’s squad for yesterday’s game against Crystal Palace.

But he will play in a behind-closeddoors friendly tomorrow as he continues building up his fitness after joining the Bees on a six-month deal.

Brentford’s matchday announcer introduced Eriksen by saying: “Sometimes, something very special happens that unites everyone… Please welcome back on to the football stage, our most recent signing, Christian Eriksen.”

The Dane wandered to the centre circle and waved to all four corners of the Brentford Community Stadium.

He was watched from a box by his partner, Sabrina Kvist Jensen, who was at the game in Copenhagen in June, and their two children.

Speaking in the matchday programme Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, said: “We first discussed the possibility of Christian joining Brentford when we heard he would be leaving Inter.

“It is fantastic he is with us now.”
