Modric the magician is a Real genius

SOMETIMES it is nice to look beyond the Premier League.

Whenever a good player excels in the Premier League, he is routinely referred to as the ‘best in Europe’.

That crossed my mind when I read Luka Modric will celebrate 10 years at Real Madrid.

What an achievement at such a fabled club.

In that time, Modric has won four Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles, three UEFA Super

Cups, three Club World Cups, one Copa del Rey and four Spanish Super Cups.

Oh, and a Ballon d’Or.

Modric is a brilliant footballer and a credit to the game. La Liga and Real are lucky to have him.

THERE was absolutely nothing wrong with Michael Oliver giving Gabriel Martinelli (below) two yellow cards after one passage of late play at Molineux on Thursday night.

But, coming from a man I saw allow Luke Shaw to commit half a dozen bookable offences across an hour or so against Aston Villa earlier this season WITHOUT cautioning him, it just came as a

bit of a surprise.

AH, the romance of the FA Cup, part two. Boreham Wood (above) get through to the fifth round of the FA Cup, draw a grand Premier League club... and have to play at 8.15 on a Thursday night, with the impossibility of bringing the giants back to Hertfordshire. The FA pretends to like the Davids... but kowtows to the Goliaths.
