Putin ‘set to drop Father Of Bombs’
RUSSIA is poised to use the world’s most powerful non-nuclear bomb in an imminent invasion of Ukraine, defence sources warn.
The weapon has been dubbed the Father Of All Bombs and can devastate an area of more than a square kilometre.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has given the order for its use as part of his “shock and awe” campaign, sources add.
The FOAB (official name the Aviation Thermobaric Bomb of Increased Power) has a blast equivalent to more than 44 tons of TNT. It is dropped from a jet, detonates in mid-air and produces effects similar to a small nuclear device.
Most damage is inflicted by a supersonic shockwave and high temperatures, which can destroy underground bunkers.
Sources said the bomb – already used in Syria – will be activated in the opening hours of war to break Ukrainians’ spirit.
“The impact will be devastating,” they added. “This is almost a psychological weapon and will cause massive casualties as well as damage to tanks.”
