Half of girls face school period jibes

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

ALMOST half of young girls have been “period shamed” by boys at school.

And almost a quarter say they have been stopped from leaving class to find a toilet while on their period.

A similar number of girls aged 11 to 16 say they still face terms such as “having the painters in” or “Liverpool playing at home”.

Almost as many have faced an assumption they must be on their period simply because they have stood up for themselves or disagreed with someone.

And 13% had no idea what was happening when they got their first period.

Helen Rankin, of period pants firm Cheeky Pants, which did the study, said: “It’s crucial there are places they can turn to for information that makes them feel prepared and positive.”
