Heartbroken Kanye needs a digital detox

Airing your dirty laundry online is never a good idea

-

We have all had horrible break-ups and unfortunately for some people everything now plays out in public.

When I broke off my engagement in 2018, I was desperate not to come across as a victim so I was posting all these sexy revenge selfies to say: “I am fine, I don’t need a man.”

But inside I was broken.

So it makes me really sad to see Kanye West posting about Kim Kardashian on Instagram in a bid to win her back.

Social media can be incredibly toxic. We’re all warned about this before we join – and are constantly reminded.

Everyone pleads for people to “be kind” but it doesn’t matter. It’s still an incredibly dangerous place.

If you’re struggling or you’re feeling low, that can be exacerbated.

Kanye has lost Kim, he is absolutely gutted and now feels like Instagram is the best medium to get her back.

Ironically, Kim is the one who made her name on social media – and she has remained silent.

Airing your dirty laundry online is never going to end well.

Sometimes it can be cathartic to get your side of the story out there, but not when you’ve been scorned or hurt or if you’re suffering with your mental health.

Kanye is being turned into memes and ridiculed, but it’s not funny. We should be seeing that this is a man struggling to deal with the break-up of his marriage.

I do genuinely believe someone needs to take Kanye’s social media away – to step in and take control of the situation.

It’s not productive for anyone involved – especially their children – and he’s clearly not going to get the outcome he wants.

So I really hope someone is looking after him and that he has some good people around him who can help.

I think it’s healthy for everyone to step away from social media sometimes and have a break.

It’s obviously incredibly difficult for someone like me, who uses Instagram as part of their job.

But I need a break sometimes. This week, I am in Dubai with my boyfriend Ercan and will be turning my phone off for a bit. I will have a couple of days away from Instagram and some reduced screen time – depending on how long I can last without it!

I feel like a digital detox is necessary sometimes and I want to be more present when I’m with Ercan.

Kim and Kanye have obviously chosen to live their lives in public, as I have.

I recently made a TV show about my engagement and did a few magazine shoots.

When things are going well, you want to shout about it and be seen cuddling up with your other half on the front page of a magazine.

But you don’t get to switch off when things get hard.

I think the only way to change that narrative is to take a step back and say: “I need to take some time for me.”

It looks like Kanye really needs a break – and I hope he gets to have one.
