Insurers ditch plan to merge

-

Mutual insurers LV= and Royal London have walked away from talks over a possible merger.

LV=, which was formerly known as Liverpool Victoria, said the move would not be in the best interests of its members.

Royal London suggested it had been led to believe that LV= did not have a viable future on its own.

House price growth is set to slow this year as households face a squeeze on their finances.

The Halifax said prices went up by 0.3% in January – the lowest monthly increase since June – but it expected growth to slow “considerably”.

The rise meant the average house price hit a record high of £276,759. The Halifax said affordability remained at “historically low levels”.
