UEFA’s ‘token’ failure
UEFA have been accused of sending out the wrong message by partnering with a ‘crypto asset’ company when the unregulated market leaves fans vulnerable.
European football’s governing body signed a new deal with ‘fan token’ handlers Socios last week – sparking a backlash from Football Supporters’ Europe.
The group claimed the deal was ”a clear attempt to monetise football’s responsibility to properly engage with fan groups.”
Manchester City, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Leeds and Everton have all begun offering ‘fan tokens’ to supporters.
