Labour’s call for NI hike to be scrapped
APRIL’S national insurance rise should be axed as sanctions against Russia send the cost of living soaring, demands Labour.
Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves says analysis shows people in the North East and Midlands who rely mainly on wages would be hardest hit.
The South East would get off more lightly as people there make more income from investments and property.
The Ukraine war is already pushing petrol prices towards £1.60 a litre, and threatening utility costs of £3,000 a year.
Ms Reeves also calls for a one-off windfall tax on oil and gas producers to cut household energy bills by up to £600, and scrapping VAT on domestic fuel.
