BA grounded by computer breakdowns

- STEPHEN HAYWARD

THOUSANDS of British Airways passengers were left stranded yesterday after computer crashes forced it to cancel all its morning short-haul flights from Heathrow yesterday.

The airline said the issue, which also caused delays for customers using Gatwick and London City Airport, was not sparked by a cyber attack.

It added that long-haul flights were running but some were delayed too.

BA’s website and app crashed on Friday evening, preventing customers from checking in online or booking flights.

BA said: “We are sorry that due to the continuing technical issues we have had to cancel short-haul flights from Heathrow.”

Customers were being offered refunds or options to rebook.
