Crimes against women to be a top priority for police

- BY NIGEL NELSON Political Editor

POLICE are to be told to make violence against women the same priority as terrorism and organised crime.

Home Secretary Priti Patel will add the crime to the Strategic Policing Requirement, which sets how resources are allocated by England and Wales’ 43 forces.

She said: “The safety of women and girls is an absolute priority and I do not accept violence

COMBAT VIOLENCE against them is inevitable.” The move follows outrage at the murder of Sarah Everard, 33, who was last year abducted by police officer Wayne Couzens as she walked home in South London.

Ms Patel has appointed Deputy Chief Constable Maggie Blyth to drive improvements in dealing with violent crimes against women.

Ads telling people how to challenge perpetrators launch this week and £25million has been allocated to the Safer Streets Fund.
