Tigers up for facing ‘the best’

- Premiership Round-Up

LEICESTER head coach Steve Borthwick admits his side have little time to celebrate moving 16 points clear at the top of the Premiership as they next face Saracens, the “best team in the league”.

The Tigers extended their advantage at the summit with a 35-23 bonuspoint win over GLOUCESTER thanks to tries from Jack van Poortvliet, Jasper Wiese, Hanro Liebenberg and Guy Porter.

“Gloucester are a really good team, who really stretched us before halftime, so it was a tough old game,” said Borthwick.

“Next week we are playing the best team in the league, who will be coming off a bye week, so we will need to have recovered our minds by Monday to focus on that task.”

Gloucester were firmly in contention after fighting back to lead 16-14 at halftime but it was one-way traffic in the second half as Leicester upped the ante.

Joe Cokanasiga’s late try double on his return from injury after five months out snatched a 30-25 win for BATH at NEWCASTLE FALCONS and delighted head coach Neal Hatley.

Bath went in 18-11 behind at the break but winger Cokanasiga came on after 53 minutes and came up with two tries in 12 minutes.

Cokanasiga’s second score four minutes from time, converted by Danny Cipriani, saw Bath snatch victory at the death.

Hatley said: “I’m delighted for the boys, especially to see Joe getting back on the pitch and the scoresheet.”
