Bantams bid for a Spark up

MARK HUGHES insists he will rely on his winning mentality for success at Bradford rather than spending big in the transfer market.

Hughes was this week appointed as boss of the League Two club on a deal until the summer of 2024 but kicked off his reign with a disappointing 2-0 home defeat by Mansfield.

Eyebrows were raised at the move as Hughes has never managed outside of English football’s top-flight.

Yet the former Manchester United striker (above) said: “I’m clearly experienced. I’ve played and managed at the top level, arguably in European football and possibly world football.

“Through that experience, I feel I have a lot of knowledge which I can impart on a group of lads who maybe don’t have an insight into that level.

“Perhaps that will help their ambition and their desire to be the best they can be.”

Hughes accepts that life at Valley Parade will be a million miles away from the lavish budgets he worked with as a Premier League boss.

The Welsh legend added: “Clearly the resources are different, but you cut your cloth accordingly.

“We’ll manage with the budget I’ve been given and will try our best to be as expert as we can in terms of going after the players we believe can get the job done.”
