Jurgen has ’best team in history’

VIRGIL VAN DIJK and his fellow defenders are key to Liverpool’s success, claims Dietmar Hamann.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have plundered 70 goals in the Premier League this term – more than any of their rivals.

But Anfield hero Hamann, who won the League Cup twice with Liverpool in 2001 and 2003, said: “In terms of importance, you talk about that spine – Alisson, Van Dijk (above), Fabinho.

“And then you can name either Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota or any of the other two lads on the wing.

“They know even if they lose a ball, the guys at the back will hoover up and nothing will happen. Van Dijk seems to be back to his best.

“For me, this is one of the best teams in history – not only for Liverpool, but in English history.

“I think that this Liverpool side is far superior to Chelsea at the moment. Whether that’s enough to win this Carabao Cup remains to be seen – but, with Luis Diaz coming in, it’s an extra option going forward.”
