Lowe plays high stakes

By ALEX SMITH at the Vitality Stadium

JAMAL LOWE provided the stardust as his encore handed Bournemouth an under-pressure victory.

Lowe celebrated the birth of son Ziggy, his third child, and wheeled away after his 89th-minute winner to show the name of his newborn on his undershirt.

It was the winger’s second last-gasp goal to save the Cherries in as many matches, having been banished to training on his own less than a month ago by Scott Parker.

Cherries boss Parker said: “It has been a big week for Jamal after his wife gave birth on Thursday.

“He has rounded off that week and there is no better feeling than scoring a winner.

“Three weeks ago Jamal was training on his own as he wasn’t in the squad but fair play to his resilience. He has shown his character and shows how quickly things can change.”

The Cherries were not at their best as they moved to four wins in a row.

They were forced to come from behind as Tommy Smith drilled in his first goal since netting on the final day of last season at the Vitality Stadium.

Morgan Fox’s first half red (below), for lunging into Philip Billing, did little to help the hosts as they bumbled along in the second half.

They had seemingly run out of ideas as a chorus of boos rained down before Dominic Solanke bundled in his 20th league goal of the season and Lowe’s goalmouth scramble kept them second in the table.

Parker said of the discontent from the stands: “There was a sense in the stadium which probably transpired onto the players and moved us away from how we win games but second half we were much better.

“I understand the frustrations in the stadium. It is my job to generate the positive from the stadium. We can’t let the edginess affect us.

“You don’t want it to be as late as that but I’m pleased with the two goals.”

Stoke boss Michael O’Neill raged at referee Tim Robinson afterwards.

He said: “We were the better team until the red card, there is no doubt about that.

“It is never a red card and if it is a red card then (Jordan) Zemura’s tackle on Jacob Brown is a red card, they are exactly the same challenge. One’s a red card and one’s a throw in — how’d you work that out?

“The ref couldn’t wait to get the red card out. Morgan has overrun the ball a little bit but it isn’t even a tackle. “Most weeks I think that type of challenge would have gone unnoticed.

“I’m at a loss as to how we had a player

sent off.”
