MICHAEL SMITH scored the only goal as Rotherham extended their lead at the top. Smith’s 18th strike of the season secured victory and moved the visitors nine points clear.

But Rotherham manager Paul Warne was amazed the game didn’t deliver more goals.

“The scoreline could have been anything,” Warne said.

“It is a weird one that it was only 1-0. We should have scored more goals as should they have.”

Plymouth boss Steven Schumacher said: “I thought the performance was really good.”

KARL ROBINSON admitted Oxford’s comeback win was a fitting send-off for the late Joey Beauchamp. The winger, regarded by many as Oxford’s greatest player, died last week, aged 50.

Robinson said: “We put on quite a performance for him.”

Sam Smith’s brace for Cambridge sandwiched a Matty Taylor equaliser before Cameron Brannagan (two) and Sam Baldock secured victory. Cambridge boss Mark Bonner said: “I see huge progress in our game.”
