World unites to fly the flag for peace

-

BLUE and yellow flags flew across the world yesterday as thousands of protesters called for peace.

London and many European cities saw thousands hoist the Ukrainian national colours.

Crowds filled the streets too in Pakistan, South Korea, Turkey, India and across the US.

In London, thousands gathered and used chalk to draw the Ukrainian flag on the Russian embassy’s wall. Protesters, who also marched on Downing Street, sang Ukraine’s anthem and chanted “Putin go home” and “Free Ukraine”.

Michal Poszunski, 42, originally from Poland, said: “Don’t send pity, send ammo. This won’t stop with Ukraine. Poland could be next.”

In Manchester 500 protested, including Ukrainian Tanya Patterson, 40, who has family in Kyiv. She said:

“My sister has left her home, left the city. She’s safe.

“I feel so powerless.”
