Dockers boycotting Russian oil imports

BRITISH dockers refused to unload Russian oil from a tanker as Boris Johnson was poised to turn off Vladimir Putin’s gas tap.

The PM is determined make it more tricky for the Russians to fund their dirty war.

And although less than 4% of the UK’s gas supply comes from Russia, a senior Whitehall source told the Sunday Mirror: “Ministers are exploring options to end this altogether.”

It is thought the move would cost Moscow £558million a year.

Mr Johnson has already banned Russian ships from docking to unload oil. But he can do nothing about oil brought in on ships flying flags of other nationalities.

Staff at the Stanlow refinery in Cheshire have taken a stand, however. The Unite union told Stanlow’s owner, India’s Essar Group, that members would “under no circumstances unload any Russian oil regardless of the nationality of the vessel which delivers it”.

It came as a tanker under a German flag carrying Russian oil headed to the terminal.
