PM praise for brave reporters
BORIS Johnson has praised British journalists in Ukraine after a Sky correspondent was shot in an ambush.
The Prime Minister highlighted the courage of reporters who have been
putting themselves in “terrifying and dangerous situations” to cover the ongoing Russian invasion.
Stuart Ramsay, chief correspondent for Sky News, was hit in the lower back by a bullet as a suspected Russian
“assassination squad” rained gunfire on a car carrying his crew near Kyiv on Monday.
Camera operator Richie Mockler’s body armour was hit by two rounds before the team were rescued by Ukrainian
police. Mr Johnson yesterday tweeted: “They’re risking their lives to ensure the truth is told.
“Free press will not be intimidated or cowed by barbaric and indiscriminate acts of violence.”
The Sky News crew is now safely back in the UK.
Shocking footage of their incredible escape was shown on Sky News on Friday evening. The clip shows heavy gunfire smashing glass all around the team.
A saboteur Russian reconnaissance squad is believed to have been behind
the attack. In a written account, Mr Ramsay said: “Bullets cascaded through the whole of the car, tracers, bullet flashes, windscreen glass, plastic seats, the steering wheel, and dashboard had disintegrated.”
