Warning over cyber attacks

MOSCOW is preparing to sabotage laptops and mobile phones in the UK by using porn sites to spread crippling viruses.

Keyboard warriors from Russia’s spy agency FSB and military intelligence GRU have spent 20 years probing Britain’s cyber defences for weaknesses.

They have come up with a form of attack dubbed ‘Covid for computers’ and have found the most effective way to implement it is via porn sites.

A former cyber spy told the Sunday Mirror: “One click on an enticing video is enough to introduce malware into your computer or mobile.

“The advice for safe cyber sex is the same as for real sex – use protection.”

That means always accepting updates which install the latest security software.

Most big companies and vital infrastructure have sufficient safety measures in place to foil cyber aggressors.

However, the National Cyber Security Centre still recorded 777 attempted breaches last year as Russia, China, North Korea and Iran tried to infiltrate 40% of UK businesses.

Small firms and individuals without sophisticated protection are the most at risk.

The only way to stop the spread of viruses is to restrict sensitive information to a device not linked to the internet, then use a second machine to go about your day-to-day business.

Russia has already done something similar on a larger scale – its internet network can be disconnected from the rest of the world, if needed.
