Save lives of bet addicts ace tells PM
ENGLAND football legend Peter Shilton has issued a direct plea to Boris Johnson to overhaul gambling laws – and “save lives”.
The former goalkeeper, 72, who lost millions betting, will lead the Gambling Reform rally at Westminster on Tuesday.
Last year he wrote to the PM urging a ban on gambling firms’ shirt sponsors but got no reply.
Charities say up to 11 per cent of suicides, 650 a year, are gambling-related.
Peter sad: “This is the Government’s chance to save lives. We want the laws changed with regards to how betting companies approach their industry.
“There needs to be a radical overhaul of addictive products. Addicts need more protection.”
