MPs fuel tax cuts call as prices soar
FAIR fuel MPs say prices are up to 14p a litre more than they should be, despite Russian sanctions.
And pump costs heading for £1.60 means an extra £2billion tax for Treasury coffers this year.
Now the Commons allparty fair fuel group is calling for cuts in either VAT or fuel duty when Rishi Sunak unveils his spring statement.
They say pump prices for petrol are 14p higher than necessary, while diesel is 10p more.
Tory Craig Mackinlay, chair of the Commons allparty fair fuel group, said: “It is unjustifiable motorists continue to be overcharged for fuel in a period of rapidly rising inflation.”
Average fuel prices today are £1.52 for petrol and £1.55 for diesel.
