Nissan gives CPR training to all its staff

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

ALL 6,000 staff at a car plant are to receive CPR training after two workers saved a man’s life.

Frank Kelly suffered a cardiac arrest while cycling near the Nissan factory in Sunderland last August.

The 77-year-old was saved by Karl Harrison and David Freeman, who gave him CPR until paramedics arrived.

Mr Kelly, from Castletown, who visited the car plant this week to thank his rescuers, said: “The only thing I remember is waking up in hospital.”

Mr Freeman said: “It was quite scary... but the training kicks in and you try to keep a cool head.”

Nissan said it had now joined forces with the North East Ambulance Service to offer the training to all staff.
