It’s the downsizing job as star sells possessions
MICHAEL Caine auctioned some of his most prized possessions this week after deciding to downsize his home, while his wife donated clothes for Ukraine.
The Italian Job star says he knew it was time to find a smaller place when he and Shakira started “needing telephones to find each other” at their £3.75 million Surrey mansion. The items on sale are worth up to £50,000 each and include props, artworks, numerous posters and a Rolex watch. Caine said: “I’ve no room to put six posters up. This house is 14,000 sq ft and the one I have bought is 6,000.” Caine could not attend Tuesday’s auction at Bonhams in
London as he was recovering from a back operation. But Shakira, 75, said: “I have reached a stage in my life where life matters more and this is just stuff.
“A friend is collecting to help the people of Ukraine and I have given lots of stuff to them – clothes, everything to help the refugees. We are selling up as we have so much more stuff. My husband wanted everything to stay. But we could not store things any more.”
