“Poor sleep can cause an increase in the stress hormone cortisol, which is known to reduce sexual desire,” says Mark Kirsten, sleep therapist at Innermost (liveinnermost.com). “Less sleep also lowers testosterone levels, which reduces the desire for sex.”
Meanwhile, our diets also have an impact. “Eat ginger – it increases blood flow,” says Eleanor Thrupp, nutritional therapist for Innermost. “And dark chocolate contains phenylethylamine – known as the love chemical.”
