Cup defeat is Nat so bad
NAT SCIVER believes England have made a step forward, but was left frustrated as they began their Women’s World Cup title defence with a
12-run defeat to Australia.
England failed to win a single match in the multiformat Women’s Ashes last month.
But they pushed the No.1 ranked one-day international side all the way in their first match of the tournament in New Zealand yesterday.
Sciver (right) hit an unbeaten 109 and also took two wickets as Heather Knight’s side fell 12 runs short in reply to the Aussies’ 310-3. Sciver said: “It feels frustrating but also really encouraging from where we were at the end of the Ashes.
“We were in a pretty low spot, but to be able to turn that around in a few weeks is really important, and we’ll now take that into the rest of the tournament.”
