STOP WINGING IT WITH JACK, PEP

- JOHN RICHARDSON

PETER BARNES’ mercurial wing-play lit up both Manchester clubs in the ’70s and ’80s – but he doesn’t rate Jack Grealish in his old left-wing role.

City’s £100million star (left) has struggled to shine for Pep Guardiola’s side this season and Barnes, 64, said: “Jack is a wonderful talent. But he’ll NEVER be a left-winger.

“He has joined a club with five or six players probably better at that.

“He is a No.8 or a No.10. I’m not doing him down by saying he’s a ‘poor man’s Paul Gascoigne’ because even to be mentioned with Gazza is a compliment.

“Jack can sit in that position where he collects the ball from defence and, with good vision and quick feet, can create. That’s where his football brain would be better utilised.”
