CAROLINE WEIR ended Chelsea’s domestic dominance by inspiring Manchester City to victory in a thrilling Continental Cup final.

English champions and FA Cup holders Chelsea, who have also won the last two League Cup finals, took a first-half lead through Sam Kerr.

But City drew level after the interval through Weir before Ellen White struck. And Weir (above) sealed victory to deliver a first trophy for the club since they won the FA Cup in 2020.

Weir said: “I was delighted to score and so happy we won.”

City boss Gareth Taylor said: “We really deserve this. Caroline is really important to us. But it’s all about the team – it gives us massive belief moving forward.”

Blues boss Emma Hayes said: “I have never seen us concede as poorly as we did.”
