Brady ’n bunch sparkle

Northampton 3 2

-

JON BRADY hailed a “fantastic day” for Northampton after the club celebrated their 125th anniversary with a crucial victory over promotion rivals Tranmere.

The Cobblers played in a special chocolate and blue kit to mark the occasion, and things were going to plan when two goals from Fraser Horsfall and a Mitch Pinnock strike (above) gave them a healthy lead.

Late replies from Josh McPake and Kane Hemmings – from the penalty spot – then set up a tense finish, but Northampton clung on to stay second in the table.

“It’s great to get the three points but, ultimately, what a fantastic day for our football club,” said Brady. “The club put on so many great things to mark the occasion and the fans came out in their numbers.

That was just brilliant to see.

“I’m just pleased for all those people who came here that we could give them the three points.”

Tranmere have lost four of their last five games and dropped to sixth. Boss Micky Mellon said: “We never got going and didn’t fight hard enough or find a way of imposing ourselves.

“The goals we gave away from set-pieces will always make it really difficult but the whole performance was not up to standard.”
