Our plan to help children
TODAY the Sunday Mirror and Hope and Homes are putting forward a four-point plan to keep these children safe.
■■Orphanages to be urgently recognised as humanitarian safe spaces. This should be overseen by the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. ■■Humanitarian aid corridors to be prioritised for children in orphanages. ■■The coordinated relocation of children from orphanages in conflict zones. Every child must be tracked and accounted for.
■■Unaccompanied children fleeing to neighbouring countries must not be locked up again in orphanages or refugee camps. Moldova, Romania and Poland have a duty to prioritise foster care and family reunification under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
