PM ditches his big game ban
THE Tories have been accused of condemning thousands of animals to being slaughtered after they reneged on a pledge to ban big game hunters from bringing their sick trophies into the UK.
PM Boris Johnson promised to stop animal killers importing gruesome souvenirs, such as zebra skins and lions’ heads.
But he has now ditched the Animals Abroad Bill, which would have stopped it.
Campaigner Eduardo Goncalves said the “shocking” U-turn will “condemn perhaps thousands of animals to being murdered by sadistic Brits who get their kicks from killing them”.
Westminster sources say the Bill was scuppered as the Ukraine war put pressure on Parliamentary time. A Government spokesman said it is “committed to strengthening animal welfare standards”.
But Labour’s John Spellar said the Tories will on Friday block his private Bill to jail trophy smugglers.
