Stormy Sawgrass tests world’s best
THE richest event in golf is becoming one of the most weather-plagued as the £15.3million Players Championship resumed firstround play on DAY THREE in punishing Florida conditions.
Cold winds gusting to 40mph continued to test the world’s best players at the treacherous Sawgrass course.
The first three players to hit at the famous infamous par-three 17th Island hole – Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele (above) and Brooks Koepka – all found the drink to illustrate the issues.
Officials have already announced the ‘fifth Major’ will not finish until tomorrow – the eighth Monday conclusion – with England’s Tommy Fleetwood, who shared the firstround lead, bidding to triumph.
